Michael R. Caplan

I’m Michael R. (Robin) Caplan, Renaissance man of the House: publication editor & designer, writer, theatre-maker, and singer of down-home music – classic country, blues, bluegrass, folk & standards.

In public school, I directed my friends in skits for our class. In high school, I discovered experimental theatre and then performance art and contemporary dance (BFA, Concordia). I went into special event planning, then community collaborations, then began directing my own productions.

As a freelance editor and designer, I did promotional materials and copy-writing for small businesses and non-profits, and created magazines and books for distinguished small presses, including Spring Journal & Books, then publisher of the oldest Jungian journal in the world, and Dance Collection Danse, the Canadian dance history archive and publisher.

My essays on culture and psychology appear in two collections from Routledge (one forthcoming) and in White Rose Magazine online, discussing issues of language & meaning in our time.

I sang folk tunes & country classics at home with friends before starting to perform in public. Now it's been 20 years of mixing it up at dark bars, local porches, block parties, Pride Days, a fashion show, an outdoor rave...
