The House Story

Building this ‘house’ has been a life‘s work, with foundations going back to my childhood. Our doors first opened in 2017 with the publication of David Earle‘s A Handbook for Ecstatic Survival. After that, smaller projects were launched while construction continued. Now we're publishing the 2nd edition of David's book, as well as Gilles Goyette's monumental Super Vox, Vol. 1 of his Random Generated Text Project, and there's a newly available chapbook from Vol. 3, Kallikantzaros. We very sadly lost Gilles to cancer in February, but his work lives on!

House: I always loved historical sites and re-enactments. At age 12 or so, I remember telling my mom I wanted to turn a local abandoned building into a “History House” for exhibitions & events! The symbol of a house has always been meaningful for me, too – a “mansion with many rooms”, as the old hymn goes, where we are to “see that all are free.”

Publishing House: I always loved books, too. And cut-and-paste. So I made a sci-fi fanzine in high school with a friend, and as an adult ended up as a freelance editor, a book, magazine & promotional designer, and most recently, a published writer.

Play House: Theatre was my first love, though – then contemporary dance, performance art, special events. What is a theatre but a 'house of shake', really? It's a place for playing, for shaking things up – a safe space for danger…

Production House: And I wanted to produce projects by my friends and associates, who work in multiple media, like me. Why not gather these together under one roof?
